How to Choose the Right Countertop for Your Kitchen Remodel

A kitchen remodeling project is a substantial investment in your home. It is also an opportunity to select the countertop that best suits your purposes and style. However, with so many countertop materials on the market today, choosing the best countertop for your purpose and budget may seem daunting.

Read on to learn about the most popular countertop choices, their benefits, and drawbacks so that you can make an informed decision.

Natural Materials

Natural materials such as marble, granite, soapstone, slate, and wood are popular countertop choices.

Marble

A marble countertop adds classic elegance to any style of kitchen. Marble is a versatile design element because it comes in many colors and textures. However, marble is more expensive than other countertop materials and requires regular maintenance, including sealing to prevent scratches and stains.

Granite

Granite is a widely popular countertop choice, and for a good reason: Granite countertops add a timeless elegance to any kitchen. Granite is a durable, scratch- and heat-resistant material.

Granite comes in several shades and textures. It is graded 1 through 5 and priced by grade and thickness. Thick slabs of granite are pricey enough to drive up a home’s resale value. Although durable, granite is also porous and requires occasional resealing to maintain its integrity.

Soapstone

Soapstone is a durable, non-porous, stain-resistant stone available in a spectrum of gray shades. Soapstone does not require regular sealing; however, it is softer than other natural stones and prone to scratches and marks from daily wear and tear.

Slate

Slate is a non-porous material that is both heat- and stain-resistant. Slate comes in several muted shades, some with degrees of veining, making it a more affordable option than granite or marble. Slate’s composition makes it prone to sharp corners and edges.

Wood

Wood countertops pair well with any kitchen remodel. Wood countertops come in several species and colors, making them a versatile countertop material. Wood countertops require regular staining, sealing, and refinishing.

Laminate Countertops

Laminate countertops consist of a wooden core coated with several sheets of thin plastic veneer. Laminate is inexpensive and easy to clean. However, it is vulnerable to heat and water delamination. Once damaged, laminate is difficult to repair.

Solid Surface Countertops

The first and most important part of any kitchen or bathroom remodeling project is understanding your goals. During the initial consultation, our designers meet with you to learn more about your home remodeling goals and current layout. We also use this time to explain our unique luxury renovation process and show off our top-of-the-line products.

The goal of the design consultation is to outline the project with project objectives and the estimated budget and timeline. Once you come to an agreement with our designers on the scope of the remodeling project, we collect a retainer fee and begin the design process.

Quartz

Quartz is a natural stone and one of the hardest substances on Earth. Quartz countertops are made of a quartz composite, which is an engineered stone consisting of roughly 90% quartz and about 10% epoxy or acrylic binder. Quartz countertops are more durable than granite and offer more color and design possibilities.

Cambria Quartz Countertops

Cambria produces high-density quartz slabs that are beautiful, durable, and easy to maintain. Cambria is a family-owned company. All products are made in the USA and come with a full lifetime warranty.

Cambria vs. Granite

  •         Granite is a porous substance and requires resealing to prevent damage. Cambria quartz countertops never need to be sealed.
  •         Cambria quartz countertops are easy to clean by wiping with a soft cloth and warm water.
  •         Cambria is resistant to chips, scratches, and heat.
  •         Unlike granite, Cambria quartz countertops are non-porous, so they will not absorb moisture or bacteria.
